Mallapuram: Commercial building owners under the banner of the Kerala Building Owners Welfare Association are on a warpath against the civic bodies in connection with the recent revision of building tax norms.

State president of the association Ilyas Vadakkan alleged here on Monday that the civic bodies had flouted all norms issued by the State government for revision of building tax.

He said the civic bodies were exploiting the ignorance of the building owners.

Mr. Vadakkan said that protest dharnas would be planned in front of all Collectorates in the State.

He said discussions held with several Ministers, including Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, yielded no results.

He requested the building owners who were taxed more than Rs.40 a square metre in panchayats and more than Rs.50 a square metre in municipalities to get in touch with the association.
