MUMBAI: The Confederation of Indian Industry has welcomed the proposed increase in floor space index (FSI) in the draft Development Plan 2034.

The FSI may be increased from 2.5 to 8 depending upon the location. Areas around railway stations like Andheri, Dadar, Metro and monorail stations may get maximum FSI. "The decision to free up FSI is good. Simplification of rules, computerization of land and building records will mean that the government will gain far more value as the velocity of transactions increase," said Dr Arup Basu, vice-chairman CII, Maharashtra.

Ajit Khatri, ex-president of the Practising Engineers Architects and Twon Planners Association said the huge FSI proposed around railway stations will increase chaos. "They could have increased marginally. The beneficiary will be only the developer and the plot owner," he said.
