MUMBAI: A Jalgaon trial court on Monday framed criminal charges against minister of state for transport Gulabrao Deokar and former housing minister Suresh Jain, the main accused in the Rs 169 crore Jalgaon housing scam.
Criminal charges were also framed against 50 other accused, said special public prosecutor Pravin Chavan.
Deokar is from the NCP and was a Jalgaon civic body member when the scam took place. Jain, a sitting Shiv Sena MLA from Jalgaon, spent nine days in police custody after his arrest, but has been in and out of hospitals since he got judicial custody in March last year.
In November, when the SC ordered he be shifted to a correctional centre, Jain was taken to Arthur Road jail but was shifted the same day to St George's hospital, where he continues to be.
The SC on May 6 had directed the trial court to frame charges within a fortnight from May 15.
"We've asked for an inquiry into how Jain continues to be in hospital when all his medical reports show his condition is not serious," Chavan said. "The next hearing is on May 29."
