The Pokhariput bus terminus will be made operational within the next seven days following a decision taken at a Board meeting of the Bhubaneswar-Puri Transport Services Limited (BPTSL) on Friday.
The city bus services here currently operate from the temporary bus depot at Master Canteen. Around 95 city buses are plying  and covering Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Puri. But till now there has been no permanent bus terminal. The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) is constructing the new bus terminal in Pokhariput.
“We have decided to make the terminal  operational within the next seven days. It was a long-standing demand and the decision was pending for a long time. We will go ahead with it,” said BPTSL chairman and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena. Asked about the progress in the new bus terminal, he said, “The basic amenities will be made available initially. The other services will added later on.”
The Dream Team Sahara (DTS) officials had voiced their resentment over the delay in setting up the bus terminus. Due to this, they have run into huge losses, they said. “We will shift from the current bus terminal near Master Canteen only if the bus terminal at Pokhariput provides the basic facilities needed for city buses,” said DTS chairman Nishikant Misra.Misra stressed the need for sheds. Buses cannot be stationed in the open during the rainy season, he said. “We have constructed basic facilities at Master Canteen bus depot such as a ramp for washing and an inspection ramp.
We are ready to move to new location if these basic facilities are ready,” Misra said.
