Malda: The Enforcement Directorate today attached 11 plots across Englishbazar that were acquired by the Saradha Group and put up notices saying the properties could not be claimed or dealt with without permission from the department.

Accompanied by officials of the land and land revenue department, the ED officials put up notices on eight plots in Tiyakathi mouza and three in Lakshmipur, both in Englishbazar block. The properties spread over 10.57 acre were attached under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

This morning, two ED officials, including assistant director, ED, Sunil Kumar, visited the 11 plots along with the block land and land revenue officer, Achintya Ghosh, and other officials of the department.

First, they visited Lakshmipur village, 7km from here. A 10 bigha plot along the Malda-Manikchak state highway, where an unfinished school planned by the Saradha group was located, was attached by the officials. Later, they went to Susthani More in Tiyakathi mouza where Saradha Group had acquired about 16 bigha for a mango-processing unit. The ED officials put up attachment notices there.

Kumar said he had come from Calcutta with 14 notices. “In the course of investigation, we came across several plots acquired by Saradha Group. Some are in the name of Saradha Group and some are benami. That is all I can say.”

District magistrate Sharad Dwivedi refused comment.

Malda North Congress MP and party district president, Mausam Noor, said: “I have asked the district magistrate to locate all land acquired by Saradha Group so that those can be sold and the money returned to the depositors.”
