GUNTUR: A woman farmer, who has been leading a movement against land pooling, alleged that the state government is using the police to harass protestors.

Boyapati Sudharani of Krishnayapalem village in Mangalagiri mandal told the media on Saturday that a police team had visited her house as she is opposed to the land pooling scheme.

"Can't we speak against the state government? What's wrong if I oppose the land pooling scheme and conversion of rich agricultural land into concrete jungle? Why should the police visit my house?" Sudharani asked.

Sudharani said that the annual lease of Rs 30,000 per acre offered by the government is too meagre for farmers to even clear their electricity bills. She also found fault with the chief minister for not implementing the loan waiver scheme for horticulture farmers in villages where the core capital city will be built.

"We are farmers. We cannot sit idle. We will continue to plough our fields and make a living through agriculture. Can a doctor leave his practice and simply sit at home in return for some remuneration?" Sudharani asked. She criticised Naidu for 'posing as a farmer-friendly CM while bulldozing green fields'.

Meanwhile, YSRCP legislator A Ramakrishna Reddy echoed Sudharani and alleged that many farmers in riverbank villages are being "silenced" by police through force.
