GHAZIABAD: The GDA has undertaken a three-stage procedure to identify, measure and dispose of leftover chunks of land adjoining corner plots that have either been encroached upon or are lying vacant in different areas developed by it.

The first-stage of the process, which is identification and listing of these chunks, is expected to be completed by Thursday. A survey of such areas was ordered earlier this month after various departments suggested to GDA the massive revenue these unused properties could generate. The survey was conducted in Indirapuram, Vaishali, Kaushambi, Govindpuram, Raj Nagar, Swarnjayanti Puram and Patel Nagar.

These chunks of land, GDA officials said, were left unused for future projects, including widening of roads or development of green belts. In several cases, they have been encroached upon by neighboring plot owners.

"All parcels of land reserved for public purposes will be restored to their original land use if found to be encroached. These plots will be disposed of through a two stage allotment process, the first of which will be completed by April-end," said the authority OSD R P Pandey.

The second stage will be compilation of the inventory, involving preparation of 'site plans' of parcels. Officials said priority will be given in the allotment of these chunks to the owners of adjoining corner plots, if they purchase them at existing sector rates. A scheme will be launched for rest of the chunks.
