BANGALORE: The State government on Wednesday held a preliminary meeting with representatives of various IT companies to develop ‘Smart Cities’.
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had announced the Smart City concept in his budget speech to develop 100 cities across the country with state-of-the-art civic, transport and health facilities. Tumkur is one of the cities included in the list from Kanataka.
Speaking to reporters, Urban Development Minister Vinayakumar Sorake said representatives from CISCO, IBM, Siemens and other companies took part in the meeting which was a prelude to an urban development ministers’ conclave convened by the Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu in Delhi on Friday.
The government is keen to develop Hubli-Dharwad, Belgaum, Mangalore, Davangere, Tumkur, Belgaum, Mysore and Shimoga under Smart City concept. The IT companies which participated in the meeting evinced interest to take up projects under public private partnership, he added.
