BHUBANESWAR: The crime branch of state police on Monday arrested a retired government employee in an alleged scam of grabbing government land worth nearly crores of rupees in Shampur Mouza within Bhubaneswar tehsil.
The accused is Sridhar Mishra, the then assistant settlement officer of Shampur camp court, sources said. The crime branch has so far arrested 12 people in connection with the scam. Land sharks had colluded with some corrupt tehsil and settlement officials to occupy around 80 acre of government land.
"The officers forged documents and transferred the government land in favour of the land mafia," a crime branch officer said. A police complaint was lodged at Capital police station in 2005. The case was subsequently handed over to the crime branch.
