GUNTUR: Adding fuel to farmers' anger, AP agriculture minister Prattipati Pulla Rao on Saturday did not rule out the possibility of acquiring more than the proposed 30,000 acres land for the construction of capital city.

He said the government would pool land in all villages up to 16 km from Prakasam barrage in Vijayawada. He said 17 villages were identified for first phase land pooling and, all the villages falling within 16 km radius from Prakasam barrage, would be taken over for capital city.

The minister's announcement is likely stir hornet's nest as farmers from the villages that have already been identified for land pooling, are seething with anger. The minister, however, stoutly denied exempting a few villages to benefit VVIPs. Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, Pulla Rao, who is a key member of cabinet sub-committee on land pooling, said the government would take land for the capital city only after satisfying farmers with a good compensation package.

He, however, said the government will not take lands from farmers without their consent. The ministers' team will visit all the villages identified for land pooling shortly.
