HYDERABAD: Property tax will be revised in the newly-constituted 25 urban local bodies in Telangana with effect from April 1, 2015.
The state government has given permission to the commissioner and director of municipal administration for revision of property tax.
The CDMA has directed the commissioners of 25 municipalities and nagar panchayats to place tax proposals before the municipal council by October 6. The councils should pass a resolution by October 10 on their intentions to levy property tax and specify the rates and the date for levying the tax. The resolution should be published on October 15 and any suggestions/objections called before November 20 and a decision taken by the council by November 30. After the council determines the levy of property tax and enhancement of existing taxes, notifications will be published in the district gazette.
Tax will be levied on all buildings and lands within municipal limits as a percentage of their annual rental value (ARV).
The property tax will have components of tax for general purpose (0.10 pc), water tax (0.04 pc), drainage tax (0.02 pc), lighting tax (0.02 pc) and scavenging tax (0.02 pc).
