BHUBANESWAR: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Thursday went on an inauguration spree of various completed and proposed projects on the eve of Local Self Government Day, which would be observed on Friday.
State housing and urban development minister Raghunath Mohanty laid the foundation stone of proposed night shelter project in Bhimpur. The project would be commissioned at a cost of Rs 34.40 lakh.
A total number of four night shelters would be built in Bhubaneswar in consonance with a Supreme Court order to provide accommodation to homeless urban poor.
Mohanty also inaugurated a water body (Chua Pokhari), which was renovated at Rs 20.09 lakh at Ghatikia. The minister laid the foundation stone of proposed meat market at Ghatikia. "Detailed project report of the project is underway," BMC deputy commissioner Krushna Chandra Pati said.
Two crematorium grounds were inaugurated at Kapilaprasad (Rs 25.21 lakh) and Badagada (Rs 21.65) areas. While a garment market (Rs 73 lakh) was inaugurated at Unit-II area, a park (Rs 13 lakh) was thrown open for public in Madhusudan Nagar. Energy minister Arun Kumar Sahu inaugurated the street light project from Jayadev Vihar Square to Hotel Mayfair Square at a cost of Rs 14.93 lakh.
