The Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) has sanctioned around Rs 3.40 crore to add more buses to the existing fleet of city buses operating here.
Around 15 big buses have been sanctioned under the JNNURM for the city.
“We are planning to write to the authorities to procure 15 mini buses instead of 15 big buses,” Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena said. At a Board meeting of Bhubaneswar-Puri Transport Services Limited (BPTSL), it was decided to ply additional 15 city buses on Bhubaneswar-Puri-Konark route. Ten additional big city buses will be provided for Bhubaneswar and five big city buses will added to the Jatni route. According to Jena, who is also the chairman of BPTSL, the new buses will become operational in the next one week.
On the controversy regarding advertisements on the body of the buses, Jena said the issue will be sorted out during the next Board meeting.
