Kanpur: The chief minister's proposed visit to the city activated Kanpur Development Authority and its officials have started an exercise to settle New Transport Nagar at Bhausingh Panki village, which is included in Samagra Vikas Yojana.
On Monday, KDA officials discussed the project and decided to expedite the matter. According to sources, this project worth Rs 125 crores is spread in 75 acre land. Around 995 plots of different dimension have been prepared.
At present, Transport Nagar is in the middle of densely populated areas of Kanpur South and residents of Babu Purwa, Kidwai Nagar, Parampurwa, Bara Devi, Tat Mill and Ghantaghar face road jam due to movements of trucks and loaders. Several times, people have demanded to remove Transport Nagar from its present site to outskirts of the city so that normal traffic could be restored.
The chief minister had included new Transport Nagar project in his dream projects.
To execute the project, KDA officials last took possession of land in Bhausingh Panki village in August. Laying of sewer line and potable water line and roads are being executed. KDA is planning to develop 995 plots for transporters.
According to sources there are around 1000 transporters in the city and around 2500 trucks load and unload goods every day. The present Transport Nagar is spread in about 100 acres of land while New Transport Nagar is being planned in 75 acres. Some transporters had recently stated that dimension of plots chalked out by KDA was less than their requirement. Therefore, they would think twice before leaving the place.
Rate of plots is another issue which had been raised by the transporters. Recently, KDA officials had asked transporters that cost of development had been escalated they had to pay the cost of land on increased rates.
