BHOPAL: Chief minister has assured residents of Kolar area that all illegal colonies would be made legal. He was addressing an election campaign in support of mayoral candidate Alok Sharma in Kolar on Monday.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan, in his speech, was referring to the Kaliasot river case that is currently subjudice with National Green Tribunal (NGT). NGT had ordered last year that encroachments within 33 metres of green belt on either sides of the river be removed.

Chouhan said, "I'm telling you this brothers and sisters that till the time I am chief minister, no one can oust you from your houses. (Mai aap sabko ye kehta hun mere behno aur bhaiyo, mere CM rehte koi mai ka laal aapko nahi hatayega)."

He also talked about possible action on builders and officers responsible for the Kaliasot mess but not on any resident.

He assured residents that no one needs to be scared because of notices they received following NGT's orders. "People bought plots and flats with their own hard earned money. When they were buying flats, no one objected, now they say it's illegal. How can that be? We will establish sewerage network, build colleges and roads in the area. Your problems are now Shivraj Singh's problems," he said.

The clipping of CM's speech has been uploaded on YouTube by Kaliasot (Kolar) Prabhavit Rehwasi Sangharsh Morcha (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfP31coIuyE)

However, petitioner Subhash C Pandey is already seeing red over CM's comments. "How can someone in such a high position give such irresponsible remarks? It is not only non-compliance but also contempt of NGT. If chief minister himself is saying such things, then why would any of the agencies take action against anyone? I would file an objection by means of miscellaneous application with a CD of CM's speech in the tribunal," he said.

Meanwhile, civic elections and rain are hampering the baseline and green belt demarcation of Kaliasot river. Revenue officials said that while they have been exempted from election duty per se, they get involved in poll related matters. Besides, continuous rains for last couple of days have been a hindrance in field work.

Of 45km of baseline and 33m green belt on either side of the river that has to be demarcated, nearly all of the baseline has been demarcated, while pillars across 6km have been erected. Hearing in the matter is on March 4.
