Mysuru: The former MP A.H. Vishwanath has urged the State government not to notify the Mysore Master Plan 2031, alleging that it was beneficial to real estate players.

This comes at a time when the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) is keen on getting the plan approved.

At a meeting held in the city on Wednesday to discuss development projects for Mysuru, the issue of the master plan came up during which many experts called for satellite townships to decongest the city, improved connectivity, etc.

However the plan has been criticised as not being reflective of ground realities. Mr. Vishwanath pointed out that it was prepared by an agency from Hyderabad with “no knowledge of the topography of the city”.

1,800 objections

Mr. Vishwanath pointed out that there were more than 1,800 objections to the master plan and these suggestions and corrections should be reflected in the final document.

He said the master plan was prepared during the previous BJP administration when S.A. Ramdas was district in-charge Minister. “A thorough discussion and collection of public opinion was a must before notifying the plan,” said Mr. Vishawanath.

Objections to the master plan stems from a belief that Mysuru should not go the Bengaluru way, said Mr. Vishwanath, who suggested the constitution of a coordination authority comprising various departments and experts, apart from a senior IAS officer with expertise on the subject.
