CHANDIGARH: As the parking problem in the residential areas has been increasing day by day, UT architect wing is hardly bothering on the idea of construction of community parking lots despite proposal by the MC. Recently, the MC sent three proposals of community parking in sector 18, 19 and 21 to the architect wing for approval, but no communication has come in this regard so far. As per MC in last one and a half year around ten such proposals have been sent, but no approval has come so far.
In last three years, since the idea of community parking came to existence in the city through the general house of the MC, only one small size community parking could come in existence in sector 19.
When asked, Vishal Gupta executive engineer of the MC said, "Recently, we found one location each feasible in sector 18, 19 and 21 and sent to the architect wing. Hopefully, we will get positive response from there soon".
"We have sent around ten locations after doing our exercise for the inspection and approval of the Chandigarh administration's architect department, but no reply from the department has come so far. The councillors are submitting requests to us for construction of community parking in their respective areas, but due to neglected attitude of architect wing, not happened" said an official of the engineering wing on the condition of anonymity.
Scarcity of parking areas for vehicles has been emerging a major problem in the residential areas of the city, as number of vehicles has been increasing day by day. Every day registration and licensing authority of Chandigarh is registering around 250 to 300 vehicles.
