NAGPUR: After revenue collection scam, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) property tax department has been hit by an assessment scandal. Of total 26 units, the officials of NMC Dharampeth Zone assessed only three units 10 years ago, forgetting to assess the sprawling Naivedyam Hall and 22 shops in Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) complex at Ambazari. Now, the property tax of only the hall has been assessed at Rs 1.09 crore, with the process of assessing the remaining shops in progress.

In a case related to a residential apartment at Khare Town, Dharamepth, the area of unauthorized construction has increased over seven times after a notice was served by the civic body directing the violator to raze illegal structures. Such shocking apathy is continuing despite regular complaints from residents for the last two years.

NAGPUR: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is all set to implement Pune Municipal Corporation's (PMC's) ready reckoner plus rental-based system to calculate property tax. "There will be upper and lower ceilings on increase or decrease of tax. It will not increase beyond double the monthly rent prevailing in the market nor will it fall below 50% of this amount," said NMC's tax committee chairman Girish Deshmukh.
