NIDAMARRU (GUNTUR): Pradesh Congress Committee president N. Raghuveera Reddy on Monday launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, alleging that the latter was acting as a ‘real estate broker’ for the private firms of Singapore and Japan.
Accusing the government of hell-bent on pooling of the best of farm land at villages in Krishna riverbed for capital region, Mr. Reddy said Mr. Naidu’s actions would spell doom for ecology and food security of the region. “Andhra Pradesh has around 1.6 crore acres of land and I have no doubt that the land in these villages are the most fertile. There are only few thousands of fertile lands left in the State and Mr. Naidu is acting as mercilessly in acquiring those and giving them away to foreign firms,’’ Mr. Reddy said, while addressing farmers at Penumaka and Nidamarru.
Mr. Reddy said that a few thousands of acres were sufficient to build a capital. “The Centre will provide financial support for building capital . What legal sanctity does land pooling has ?,” he asked.
The PCC chief accompanied by senior Congress leaders in Guntur and Krishna visited Undavalli, Penumaka and Nidamarru villages in the proposed capital region. Mr. Reddy also came down heavily on allegations of police atrocities in these villages. Reacting to farmers’ plea that police forces had been preventing them from entering their fields during night, he said that a four-member panel would be formed to respond to people’s plea. He said that the issues relating to livelihood of the farmers would be raised in Parliament too.
