Housing and Urban Development (H & UD) Department has directed Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) to complete work on Pokhariput bus terminus by August 31.
Earlier, Bhubaneswar Puri Transport Services Ltd (BPTSL) said due to long-standing demand for a permanent bus terminus, the Pokhariput bus terminus would be made available to Dream Team Sahara (DTS) which is running the City bus service in collaboration with BPTSL.
“The H & UD Department Secretary, at a recent review meeting, directed the BDA officials to speed up the work on the Pokhariput bus terminus and hand it over before August 31,” said DTS chairman Nishikant Misra. Claiming that the work on the bus terminus is moving at a snail’s pace, Misra hoped that this time the bus terminus would be ready in time.
It was also decided at the meeting that three Original Destination Terminus (ODT) at Infosys, Chandrasekharpur and Gadakana would also be handed over before August 31. The BDA officials have reportedly cited delay in tender process as the reason for the overall behind schedule completion of the project.
A total of 55 bus bays were proposed to be constructed in two phases, including 21 in the first phase.
“Out of the proposed 21 bus bays that the BMC executed in the first phase, 16 bus bays are ready and we have asked the DTS officials to start using them immediately,’’ said Municipal Commissioner Vishal K Dev. ‘’The remaining five bus bays will be ready in the next one month,’’ added Dev. BMC has also finalised the design for bus shelters at the bus bays.
A joint team of traffic ACP, executive engineer of the Works Department and the BMC will finalise the locations for the rest 34 bus bays.
The controversy surrounding advertisements on the City buses was also partially settled after the State Government lifted the ban. Though the ban has been lifted, the display area for advertisements has not been finalised yet. ‘’The regulation on what portions of the bus will be used for advertisement display is yet to be formulated,’’ said Misra.
