Rajiv Awaas Yojana to make Allahabad slum free
There are 185 slums in the city. Implementation of the comprehensive project would make the city free of slums.

ALLAHABAD: The city slums are set for a makeover. The slum dwellers would be provided concrete houses under a comprehensive project under the Rajiv Awaas Yojana. On Monday, a workshop was organized for the same where corporators and district authorities exchanged views, complaints and suggestions over it.

 

District magistrate Raj Shekhar briefed corporators about the comprehensive project and said that fund estimates of every slum would depend on the basis of its requirement. The entire project would be available on internet, he said.

 

The DM also sought corporators' cooperation and claimed that they would be provided complete details of slums. He added corporators could also submit proposals or suggestions. The DM assured corporators that district authorities would visit slum concerned after finalizing dates with corporators. He said an action plan would be added with the comprehensive project as per requirement.

 

Corporators, meanwhile, asked district authorities to remove encroachments from roads, footpaths and drains and the DM assured them that an anti-encroachment drive would be initiated shortly.

 

There are 185 slums in the city. Implementation of the comprehensive project would make the city free of slums. Under the plan, beneficiaries would be selected through participation and all departments would be working together. Besides, a working committee, comprising officials from Union, state and the district, would also be set up.

 

On the occasion, mayor Abhilasha Gupta stressed on garbage disposal and traffic scenario in the project. She also sought measures to deal with street vendors and advised a survey at ground level.
