RAJKOT: A city-based real estate broker has lodged a complaint against unidentified person after allegedly receiving an extortion call on Tuesday night. The caller had demanded Rs 1 crore from and threatened to kidnap his daughter if he failed to deliver amount till Wednesday evening.
Jayprakash Delvadiya (50), a resident of Fulvadi Park off Kalavad Road, lodged the complaint with Malviyanagar police station against unidentified person on Wednesday.
In his complaint, Delvadiya said that on Tuesday he got a phone call where the caller demanded Rs 1 crore by Wednesday evening in Shapar on outskirts of Rajkot. He threatened to kidnap his daughter if he did not pay the amount.
Delvadiya further stated in the complaint that the caller claimed to know about his past and threatened to take revenge even after coming out of jail if he got caught by police.
Police registered a complaint under section 507 (criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication) of Indian Penal Code and launched probe.
Police sources said that the phone number through which the call was made was traced to Shapar-Veraval on outskirts of city and the mobile number was registered in the name of Bhupat Koli.
Delvadiya owns Shreenathji Estate in Shapar-Veraval and is engaged in land broking business.
