The Rourkela bus terminus is in a deplorable condition. Protesting the state-of-affairs, the members of Sundargarh Motor Karmachari Sangh (SMKS) and the Rourkela Mini-bus Owners’ Association (RMOA) on Thursday accused the Rourkela Development Authority (RDA) of being indifferent towards the condition of the bus terminus.
Concrete ceilings of the main building have peeled off at many places therefore the ceilings leak during monsoon. A stench hangs heavy in the terminus as drains are clogged and lavatories not cleaned on a regular basis.
SMKS and RMOA leaders Biman Choudhary, MD Parija and Wakil Choudhary said after its inauguration in 1993, no repair and maintenance works were ever done.
They alleged that although RDC had collected Rs 20 crore from private buses so far, passenger amenities are negligible in the terminus. Shop owners in the terminus alleged that there is no adequate safety in the terminus.
RDA Chairman Dayanidhi Kisan said temporary repair works would be a wastage of fund as the RDA is exploring ways for major renovation which would require over Rs 1 crore. He said talks were on to develop it on PPP mode with all modern facilities.
