HYDERABAD: The TRS government, which is finding it difficult to spot sufficient government and private land for its ambitious scheme of distributing three acres each to landless Dalit families in the state, has now begun appealing to Telangana NRIs and industrialists to sell their unused land to the government.

TS chief minister and TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao has appealed to Telangana NRIs and industrialists to this effect. While addressing a joint session of the TRS Parliamentary Party, legislature party, state committee and politburo at the Telangana Bhavan here, the TRS chief said there were many NRIs and industrialists, who are in possession of large extent of land in the state, which is not in use. Hence, if they sell it to the state government under the Land Purchase Scheme, it could be used for distribution to Dalits. The scheme, an election promise of the ruling TRS, was launched by KCR on August 15 on the Independence Day.

Land for STs too:

KCR disclosed that the state government would be starting a similar land distribution scheme for landless Scheduled Tribes next July. “We want to extend a similar scheme to STs so that the landless in that community will get the benefit and become self-reliant. We will be allocating funds for the scheme in the ensuing budget,” he said.

He called upon his party MPs and MLAs to see that the land distribution scheme is implemented in their respective constituencies in a transparent manner.

The CM said his government was taking up restoration of minor irrigation tanks on a priority basis and would be spending Rs 25,000-30,000 crore for the purpose. “We want to provide drinking water to every house in the next three years,” he remarked.
