Sensex turns negative in noon trade; HDFC, L&T drag

MUMBAI: Indian equities pared all its early gains and turned negativein thenoon trade on Friday. Realty and metal stocks witnessed a rise whereas capital goods stocks registered a fall.

At 12.22 p.m., the Sensex was trading down 19.32 points or 0.09% at 22,195.05 with 13 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 16.45 points or 0.25% at 6,658.20 with 33 components gaining.

Sensex Movers

Housing Development Finance Corporation contributed fall of 29.5 points in the Sensex. It was followed by I T C (28.48 points), H D F C Bank (20.4 points), Larsen & Toubro (15.32 points) and Hindustan Unilever (7.94 points).

However, State Bank Of India contributed rise of 23.98 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Reliance Industries (17.18 points), Grasim Industries (10.55 points), Infosys (8.82 points) and Hindalco Industries (5.19 points).

Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Hindalco Industries (3.03%), State Bank Of India (2.85%), Dr Reddy's Laboratories (1.44%), Tata Power Company (1.39%), Tata Steel (1.37%), and Reliance Industries (0.90%).

On the other hand, Housing Development Finance Corporation (1.71%), Larsen & Toubro (1.38%), I T C (1.19%), H D F C Bank (1.16%), Hindustan Unilever (1.11%), and Jindal Steel & Power (1.02%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.

Mid & Small-cap Space

The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.89% and 0.70% respectively. The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were A B G Shipyard (3.83%), Alstom India (3.56%), A I A Engineering (1.96%), CORE Education and Technologies (0.73%) and Aban Offshore (0.26%).The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (2.37%), Trident (1.77%), Adhunik Metaliks (1.24%), Action Construction Equipment (1.22%) and Styrolution ABS (India) (0.28%).

Sectors in Limelight

The Realty index was at 1,422.23, up by 16.93 points or by 1.20%. The major gainers were Indiabulls Real Estate (5.85%), Godrej Properties (3.6%), Anant Raj (3.02%), D L F (0.66%) and Parsvnath Developers (0.21%).

The Metal index was at 9,638.61, up by 99.62 points or by 1.04%. The major gainers were Hindalco Industries (3.03%), Hindustan Zinc (1.62%), Coal India (0.84%), Bhushan Steel (0.54%) and NMDC (0.37%).

On the other hand, the Capital Goods index was at 11,887.95, down by 87.15 points or by 0.73%. The major losers were Larsen & Toubro (1.38%), BEML (1.16%), Thermax (0.85%) and Crompton Greaves (0.56%).

Market Breadth

Market breadth was positive with 1,440 advances against 1,001 declines.

Value and Volume Toppers

Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 874.53 million. It was followed by State Bank Of India (Rs. 368.59 million), United Spirits (Rs. 335.29 million) and Reliance Industries (Rs. 245.19 million).

The volume chart was led by Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company with trades of over 3.05 million shares. It was followed by Jaiprakash Associates (2.20 million), Unitech (2.09 million) and Birla Power Solutions (1.35 million).
