THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The outgoing vice chairman of SmartCity Kochi project said here on Wednesday that the first building of the project would be inaugurated this June. The opening of the first phase of the project would generate 5,000 direct employments in IT sector.
Abdul Latheef Al Mulla who along with his successor Jaber Bin Hafez called on chief minister Oommen Chandy and other ministers here on Wednesday said talks were on final stages with many major companies for setting up facilities in the first building. "We plan to have around ten firms in the building. As per plan, the entire project will be commissioned by 2019, offering about 90,000 direct jobs," he said.
Excise minister K Babu said chief minister Oommen Chandy has sent a formal invitation to the UAE prime Minister for the formal inauguration of the first building on June 10. SmartCity Kochi chief executive officer Gigo Joseph said the work on infrastructure like internal roads, electricity and water connections would also be completed at the earliest. Hafez, who is also CEO of SmartCity Dubai, would visit SmartCity Kochi project area on Thursday, he said.
