Tatas to set up school for weaker sections

BHUBANESWAR: In its endeavour to promote school education and support education among the backward and the underprivileged, Tata Steel is set to establish a residential school for these sections in  Jajpur district.
The state-of-the-art residential school would come up on 17-acre land between Duburi and Tomka,in the vicinity of Kalinga Nagar, where Tatas are setting up their 6 mtpa greenfield steel plant. Land has already been allocated by the State Government for the purpose.
The company has already set in motion the process of setting up the residential school that would admit more than 1,000 students belonging to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and those from the underprivileged sections.
The school would initially impart education from elementary level to Class X and will be gradually upgraded to higher secondary level, officials said.
The company has also launched a programme to support educational infrastructure in the State.
