Bhubaneswar: A 45-year-old woman and her family members today lodged a complaint with the economic offences wing, alleging usurping of 45 acres located at Mahura Mouza in Khurda district.

The market value of the land will be around Rs 70 crore. The woman, Renubala Bairisal, hailing from Nageswar Tangi within the Lingaraj police limits alleged that one Jagannath Prasad Kanungo and his associates had executed a deed of power of attorney on December 12, 2005, by affixing the forged photograph of a fake person impersonating as her father-in-law.

“The land was owned by her father-in-law, Dinabandhu Bairisal, who died in September 2004. They also executed several sale deeds in favour of Ranjan Kumar Panda, Sankarlal Gupta and many others,” alleged Renubala.

She said that though the police registered a case after she had lodged a complaint, they did not initiate any action. “I have also approached several government officials, including the director-general of police and the deputy commissioner of police, to expedite the investigation, but nothing has been done so far,” she said.

She alleged that inaction by the police had led to selling of land belonging to her father-in-law.

Renubala raised suspicion on involvement of officials of the sub-registrar office in the scam. “The officials should have verified the documents properly,” she alleged.

On the other hand, a wing official said they would seek a detailed report from the police. “We would decide further course of action after getting a report from the police,” said R.K. Pattanaik, superintendent of police, economic offences wing.

The incident has come in the wake of a land grabbing case at Ghangapatna on the city outskirts.

Last week, the economic offences wing arrested seven persons, including four government officials, in the multi-crore land scam.
